Have you ever met anyone who said that they haven’t sinned for a long time?

I’ve made the mistake of laughing out loud before I realized they were serious. They firmly believed Holy Spirit kept them from willful sin and I couldn’t point out even pride since they were sincerely telling me this for my benefit, not their self-aggrandizement.

I’m not going to judge someone else’s servant, especially when I see the fruit of the Spirit continually growing in their lives. It terrifies me to teach “You must be holy because He is holy”. In the New Testament I see it’s more focussed on God’s grace making me holy because He calls me holy.

And that leads me to teach “We need to keep short accounts with God.”

John tells us in 1 John 2:1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. John had just finish writing in 1 John 1:8-9 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Sin is missing the mark. Confession and Repentance are tools God gives us to turn from sin. Confession is agreeing with with God what I did or didn’t do is sin. Confession is changing my mind AND turning and going in another direction.

When we sin, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. May Holy Spirit speak to you in this Negativity Fast Reflection - I Have Confessed My Sin.

I have confessed my sin and I am forgiven. The enemy can’t condemn me so I can’t condemn myself. I have done what I can to make amends to all I that I can. I’ve sought forgiveness from others and also my Father. As far as it depends on me, I live in peace with all people. I am free from all condemnation.

You are not your own, you’ve been bought with a price and belong to God. He chose you before the foundations of the world to be the you He will transform to bless this world.

What does it feel like to be chosen? When we were in school and chose teams, someone always got chosen last. What did it feel like to be chosen first? What did it feel like to be chosen last?

You are wanted and are loved. You are accepted and are celebrated. He laid down His life for YOU and made a way when there was no way for you to be friends again with Him. How amazing is that to pause and consider?

I am chosen. God loves me and has chosen me to be part of his own people. I have received Holy Spirit, and he lives within me, so I don’t need anyone to teach me what is true. For the Spirit teaches me everything I need to know. He guides me into all truth. The Creator of all is with me, goes before, comes behind and is inside me! How humbling and awesome that is to consider.

Negativity Fast Reflection - Day 27 - I Am Set Free

Today's Negativity Fast Reflection. Learn the liberating journey of real freedom in 'I Am Set Free' – an inspiring reflection.

In the west we have a lot of talk about freedom, but when you meet someone living with real freedom, you know all you’ve done is only talk about freedom. We have not been called to be a homogenous blob of sticky statements poised against a group that has learned to shout louder.

We’ve been set free and have been called to freedom and we’ve been called to freedom to serve one another in love.

What would it look like if the church in North America learned to use their freedom—not to demand their rights—but to serve one another in love?

I imagine the world would be a better place. We’ve be less offended and less offendable. People may start to know we are christians by our love. Maybe we’d learn to Live LIGHT.

I can only control what Holy Spirit empowers me to control and right now that is my own actions. I can learn to walk in freedom and use my freedom to serve others in love.

Negativity Fast Reflection - Day 26 - I Am Loved With An Everlasting Love

Today's Negativity Fast Reflection. Learn the power of positivity through 'I Am Loved With An Everlasting Love'.

When I dropped my kids off at school I would tell them. “You are loved. Live loved. Have fun storming the castle.”

The first two come from the Bible. The final one from Princess Bride.

It was a shorthand for us. I wanted them to know they are loved by my wife and I so many others and God, I wanted them to know to show love to others. Finally, I wanted them to know whatever impossible and “boring” situation they had that day, they could make it fun and prevail (Wesley did rescue Buttercup after being mostly dead all day).

Negativity Fast Reflection - Day 25 - I Am Part Of God’s Masterpiece

Today's Negativity Fast Reflection. Learn the transformative journey of a negativity fast and how it reveals your divine place in God's masterpiece.

Do you ever take time to think about the possibilities outside space and time? You know, get the bigger picture that our physical world is unable to fill with any satisfaction? I like to let my brain hurt at times.

God made Adam from dirt…and breathed into him the breath of life…and walked with him in the garden in the cool of the day. What if that ticked off Lucifer enough to rebel? The Divine chose to live in dirt and move in dirt and walk with dirt and show favour to dirt. I could see how that could be offensive to Morning Star.

So the rebellious led a rebellion and got the dirt to sin by simply asking “Did God really say…”

And the rest of our history is God showing his grace and love to make it all right again. He showed His grace and love again and again and again. He told prophets what He was going to do to make it right again. Even angels longed to look to it all (1 Peter 1:12). Then the Divine took it a monumentous - apparently never done before - step further. He took on flesh and camped out for a while.

This was all part of God’s greater plan. He lived. He died sacrificially. He rose again.

Why he needed to show host of heaven His amazing grace, we won’t know this side of heaven. It’s those thoughts that make my brain hurt. But I’m so glad there is rejoicing in heaven when a sinner repents (Luke 15:7).

And we all have a dance with the Divine. Pause on this negativity fast reflection - I am part of God’s masterpiece.

I am part of God’s masterpiece. He has created me anew in Christ Jesus, so I can do the good things he planned for me long ago. Even before he made the world, God loved me and chose me in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt me into his own family by bringing me to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. I belong to Christ and have become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! The Lord will work out his plans for my life.

Negativity Fast Reflection - Day 24 - By The Grace Of God

Today's Negativity Fast Reflection. Explore a transformative journey of positivity by the grace of God through this negativity fast reflection.

God’s grace is really amazing. We’ve made the term amazing grace too common with the hymns and the songs we sing. But as you sing at times you get a glimpse of what His grace means and those words resonate with the your soul and you realize it’s not common at all.

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them – yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me (1 Corinthians 15:10).

There are a lot of definitions for grace, but the one that captures my imagination is this “God’s grace enables me to do what I couldn’t do without His grace.”

Think about it. By grace we have been saved (2 Corinthians 12:9). By grace sin no longer has dominion over us (Romans 6:14). By grace we can draw close to a holy God (Hebrews 4:16), By grace we are justified (Romans 3:24). By grace we are strengthened (2 Timothy 2:1). By grace we can give (2 Corinthians 8:7). By grace we’re trained to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives (Titus 2:11-12). By grace we are encouraged (Acts 20:32).

God’s grace enables me to do what I couldn’t do without His grace. And His grace is sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:8-9)! How amazing is that !?!

By the grace of God I am who I am. And his grace was not without effect. He has redeemed and called me his own. I am loved and have been bought with a price. He will finish the good work he’s started in me. I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.
